Re: Depresstival's Appearence at Ventnor Fringe

Dear Sir

I was f**king disgusted by the potty mouthed tirade that issued from Deprestival's mouth during Ventnor Fringe. I was so disgusted that I ended up going to all 6 of her gigs and counted a total of 48 f**ks and 5 c**ts some of which were delivered in mid afternoon on Ventnor High St with normal people passing by with children and pets.

Mind you she was c**ting funny.

Mr Outrage

PS I noticed that all her gigs were videoed. Any chance that we will see this footage at some point in the future?

Yes there is a chance of video clips being available in the future but, when you consider that I still hav'n't posted any video from her gig at Quay Arts, it may be a while.

ADDITIONAL: Fortunately Depresstival has done some of the hard work for me. See here!

Hi, on the punkbrighton website there's mention of a Slaves of Janet film from a Courthope Community Centre gig, it seems to redirect to this site but i'm unable to find it. As i think i put this show on, it would be of great interest to see it. Can you help?

Cheers, Steve

Sorry to disappoint you but it was only stills I took not video, and I didn't have a flash so they are underexposed. You will find them here.

Having carefully scrutinized the recording of Ambition from the Consort 27th OCTOBER 1983, I'm pretty sure that the sax playing was O B Quiet. I think he was trying harder than usual because of the presence of another sax player in the house.

Thank for the prompt reply Owen. BTW I thought ROTL's last gig was a bit lackluster.

I am a complete failure, i did it on porpoise (said the dolphin after he pooed). So i am not a complete failure coz i have succeeded at being a failure.

Have never been married or concieved child, i consider this to be my greatest success. Apart from those two things, i am a complete failure.

Well done Jolly Green Dave for archiving the songs we recorded. I will listen to them when i can afford some earphones. Very occasionaly these days some body recognises me as an ex Bit, One bloke said,'you were the best drummer around'. With out listening to the tracks i will direct him to them and prove him wrong.

Paul Roundhill is a literary agent and art dealer and was in the tabloids some years ago for supplying large amounts of art to Pete Docherty, Kate Moss and Amy Winebox.

Speak soon, Bern the failure.

Fuck it! I just wrote a pithy repy to your post and then navigated away from the page and lost it all! Here is a brief synopsis:

Hey Bernie* you old Gareth!

I then made some consoling comments about how you judge success and my abject failure, but mentioned I am, at least, still alive! Oh I also said you should visit Brighton Punk where they might revere you a bit and make you feel a bit better about yourself. Then I was going to tell you that Paul Roundhill left a message here and went to look at his message and that is when I lost everything that I'd written because, truth be told, however much of a physical wreck I am, it pales in comparison next to my failing mental capabilities and I can't even remember to SAVE WHAT I'M FUCKING WRITING ANY MORE!!! I did see Paul on Newsnight after that guy died after leaving his party. Shockingly that is not the first time that somebody I know has been featured on Newsnight I relation to some (alleged) criminal act.

So anyway, I think I've caught up now and have made my self a sandwich, and put some soup on (atop a guttering candle) so I think I'll blah on for a bit since nobody comes here much any more (I suspect this is because there was a mistake in the code that stopped anybody posting here for about six months - see comments above about my failing mental faculties).

Yeah so I went to look at Pauls message and was amazed to see that there was one from you just before it. I don't marimba that (see comments above about my failing mental faculties)! I am pleased to see that I gave you such sage advice though - you obviously didn't follow it or you'ld be in a better frame of mind.

Anyway I have a few more SATCB songs which I will post eventually. Have you got anything? Any photo's from that time or audio? If so you must send them so I can put them up on this site. I would love to get hold of those photo's that Nick took of that party at Buckingham Rd. There was a couple of group shots that contained most of the great and good of the Brighton Punk scene (except Cliff who was passed out in the sitting room). Also I'd love to get hold of the originals of these photos that Kim took. All these ones are taken from contact prints. Can you remember either of their surnames? Then I might be able to track them down.

That's it! Time for my afternoon sleep now. You realise you can hear the original version of Bran Bud Blues here. Send us your address (or a PO Box if you're living in a cardboard box) and I'll send you a SATCB badge, use the complain page I won't publish it (honest).

PS I just listened to our "That's Jazz" version of Mamma Were All Crazy Now and laughed so much I will post it tooth sweet (or fairly soon afterwards).

*For those of you unaware of Bernie's illustrious career, not only was he Smeggy and the Cheesybits' drummer he also once sat in with The Waltons at a gig at the Seven Dials Jazz Club in Covent Garden and was the drummer for "The Band That Shall Not Be Named". He played drums in the Elvis Show (starring an early version of Shakin Stevens ) and I once saw him (with the rest of The Cheesybits) playing a Jet [possibly a Shark] in West Side Story. But the story I most often recite to friends and family involves ice skating (I will expand on this one day I promise). He also sat in with Splodgnessabounds at the old Albany Empire and played with local jazz bands in Brighton. So all in all he achieved a lot more than I ever did and has nothing to whine on about.
